The retrosternal airspace is seen as a normal lucency between the posterior aspect of the sternum and anterior aspect of the ascending aorta on lateral chest radiographs. Retrosternal chest pain might be abrupt, or it could remain mild for several days before becoming severe. Suffering from substernal chest pain can be quite painful. Not all cases are serious enough to warrant immediate medical attention, however, others do. the widow's son in the windshield continuation.
